Munich’s Hot Spots and Hidden Gems
Four times a year, Bluezone works its magic and turns Munich into a bustling hub of blue, attracting numerous professionals from the denim and sportswear industry. The trade show serves as a gathering place for all sectors of the industry, a place where professionals can collectively shape our beloved world of blue. Through innovative concepts like Keyhouse and The Source, as well as engaging lectures and panel discussions, Bluezone is helping set the course for a more sustainable future in our industry.
Munich is much more than simply a backdrop for the world-class trade show. The vibrant city has a rich and varied history, stunning architecture, and a lively cultural scene. Nestled in the heart of southern Germany, Munich is conveniently located just a stone’s throw away from the majestic Alps, making some of the world’s most majestic accessible for day trippers.
We recently spoke with Sebastian Klinder, Bluezone founder and visionary. Our conversation delved into Bluezone’s remarkable journey, which has now spanned two decades (you can find our discussion about Bluezone’s legacy here). In our conversation, we couldn’t resist asking Sebastian about his favorite spots in his beloved city of Munich. You’ll find his top five recommendations below. If you find yourself with some spare time either before or after Bluezone, be sure to check out some of these Munich hot spots and hidden gems.
Schumann’s Bar
Situated in Munich’s picturesque Hofgarten, Schumann’s Bar is an elegant establishment in a prime location. Referring to itself as a sophisticated canteen, this charming venue offers a delightful assortment of lunch and dinner options, delectable pies, and exceptional coffee. As the clock strikes midnight, Schumann’s Bar undergoes a captivating metamorphosis into a vibrant cocktail haven, featuring an extensive array of top-tier libations.
Sebastian raves about Schumann’s Bar as the ultimate hotspot in town to meet and greet. With its authentic and styled ambiance, coupled with its beautiful surroundings, Schumann’s Bar was Sebastian’s first and easiest recommendation.
Just a twenty minutes U-Bahn trip away from Bluezone, it will be an ideal spot to unwind after the show. You can find additional information about Schumann’s Bar here.
The Augustiner Beergarden
With a maximum capacity of 5,000 people, The Augustiner Beergarden is Munich’s largest, oldest, and most popular beergarden. With a diverse range of excellent beers, there’s something for every palate. The menu at Augustiner features numerous renowned local delicacies, such as various schnitzel variations and the delectable zwiebelrostbraten, which is enough to make anyone’s mouth water. If the weather is delightful, you can indulge and imbibe in the afternoon on the terrace, shaded by over 100 chestnut trees.
Sebastian claims that the Augustiner offers one of, if not the, finest beers in the world. Served in humble one-liter glasses, it will quench even the largest thirst. The Augustiner is a great place to relax and unwind. Conveniently located near the train station, it is easily accessible.
For further details about the Augustiner, additional information can be found here. If you’re starting from the Zenith Halle, the Beergarden can be reached in approximately 35 minutes by using the U-Bahn, or in around 20 minutes by taxi.
The Tantris
If you’re seeking an unparalleled and unforgettable culinary adventure to impress your denim-wearing colleague, look no further than Tantris. This two-star Michelin restaurant is renowned for its French cuisine, which they have elevated to the level of exquisite culinary art. Among its exceptional dishes, the crème brûlée stands out as arguably the most delectable desert one can find in Munich.
According to Sebastian, Tantris is an absolute gem and one of Germany’s finest dining establishments. While it may not be an everyday or post-show dining option due to its high prices, the unique experience makes a visit worth every penny.
Tantris will be an excellent choice who want to conclude day two of Bluezone (since day one is reserved for the Bluezone party!) with a taste of luxury and refinement. It is conveniently located near the Zenith Halle and can be reached in approximately 18 minutes by U-Bahn or around 10 minutes by taxi. You can find more info on their website.
The Eisbach Wave
The Eisbach River’s waves at the entrance to the Englischer Garten are regarded as one of Munich’s top attractions. It stands out as the world’s largest and most consistent spots for river surfing inside of a city’s limits, providing an unexpected and exciting experience amidst Munich’s bustling urban life. During a conversation with Sebastian, he highlighted the Eisbach wave and the vibrant surfer community as a remarkable and unexpected location in M/Unique.
The Eisbach Wave is located here, just a 30-minute U-Bahn ride away from Bluezone. Even if you’ve forgotten your surfboard and wetsuit at home, on a warm day the Eisbach Wave is a perfect spot to unwind following a busy day at Bluezone.
Stereo Muc
Just a short 10-minute stroll away from the Eisbach Wave lies a store called Stereo Muc. This establishment offers a collection of high-end sportswear, ready-to-wear fashion, accessories, and grooming products, all presented within a stylish yet timeless atmosphere. Rather than following mainstream hype, the store focuses on the discovery of authentic and enduring styles that perfectly suit a broad range of eclectic personal styles and tastes.
Sebastian spoke highly of Stereo Muc, praising its fantastic selection of brands, unique pieces, helpful and friendly staff, and overall concept. When someone as stylish as Sebastian recommends it, you know it’s worth a visit!
If you’re planning to visit Stereo Muc after exploring Bluezone, it’s just a twenty-minute trip on the U-Bahn. For some online window-shopping, you can browse their website by clicking here.
