An exclusive interview with the 4 young designers one year after winning the CADICA award to tell us about their experiences and its positive impact on them and their future career
Today, a little more than a year has passed since the fashion accessories manufacturer has rewarded 4 young designers who have presented a sustainable, innovative and reliable project. CADICA decided to interview the winners a year after the award ceremony, to let them talk about this incredible experience and to tell us how CADICA has had a positive impact for them and for their future career in the world of fashion and fashion accessories.
The manufacturer rewarded the 4 students who demonstrated to have the “CADICA X FACTOR”. The contest was the creation of a project that could reflect the company mood: sustainability, creativity and a reliable project. Please find everything about the winners in this article: https://www.iskooldenim.com/isko-i-skool-7-presents-cadica-pericolo-2020-contest/#.YLoTrqFCTIU
The prize consisted in an internship, which would’ve gave the four finalists the opportunity to work directly with the prestigious company based in Carpi, teaching them how to translate a creative project into an industrial product. The young designers could follow all the steps necessary for the realization of their capsule collection, which would then be included in the new CADICA collection. Regrettably, due to the global situation caused by Covid-19, which prevents travel between European and non-European countries, the company had to continue the collaboration in smart working. This, however, did not prevent the continuation of the collaboration project between CADICA and the winners of the competition.

What was it like immersing yourself into the world of Cadica accessories?
I would say it was challenging. It was my first time working on such a big branding project! However, it was definitely one of the best experiences as I had an opportunity to create my own little collection of trims and to get them manufactured with the highest quality sustainable materials.
Could you imagine that behind the products, there was a deep work of research and studies related to fashion trends and social issues, such as sustainability?
Sustainability is one of the most important things to consider while designing. Fashion is one of the most polluting industries, therefore I feel like it is our duty, as designers, to take responsibility and try to incorporate as many sustainable design and production choices as possible.
What do you think you learn from this collaboration that will be an added value for your future?
I learned a lot about all different kinds of sustainable materials and manufacturing processes that can be used to design trims. It was so interesting to learn so much about the newest technologies in the design industry that can help to reduce the pollution and actually have a positive effect on the environment. I also learned how to communicate my ideas through technical packs, so the designs could be made exactly as I wanted them to be. That was an interesting and valuable experience. It’s amazing to step back and see how it all started with the idea and the research, and to see a final product it’s just fascinating.
The second one that tells about her experience is Jung Yeon Choi, student of ESMOD SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA

Could you imagine that behind the products there was a deep work of research and studies related to fashion trends and social issues, such as sustainability?
When I usually look at clothes, I think labels just need to be designed to match them. I didn’t know there was a trend in package design. I was interested that many samples from Cadica each contained many ideas. Samples helped me feel a lot of inspiration. In particular, unlike one-off labels, the eco-series which the use of materials were beneficial to the environment that could be recycled continuously.
What do you think you learn from this collaboration that will be an added value for your future?
I didn’t think much of the importance of the package because it was a small part of the product. Through this environment-themed collaboration, I began to think about the environment in small things. When I take away, I tried to take tumblers or small bags from home or use plastic alternatives such as biodegradable straws. In addition, my interest in upcycling fashion has grown, giving me an opportunity to consider environmental design as a designer.
Do you think that the capsule collection you created was a relevant experience for your CV? Have you received any interesting feedback from companies or from a professional point of view thanks to Cadica name?
Of course, my collaboration with Isko and Cadica received a favorable response at the interview. However, I did not get any feedback because I did not apply as a package designer. But I must have given them the perception that I am talented in fashion in many ways. I am grateful to Cadica.
The third person to tell about his project is Venla Elonsalo, a student ofAALTO UNIVERSITY, FINLAND

Could you imagine that behind the products there was a deep work of research and studies related to fashion trends and social issues, such as sustainability?
I can imagine that. Understanding trends and social issues is important and there must have been a hard work behind all development on sustainable choices and materials of the products.
Which part of “Pericolo Creativo” project made you feel most involved in terms of creativity?
Combining the world of Cadica accessories with my own designs. It was fun to think all the possibilities!
What do you think you learn from this collaboration that will be an added value for your future?
I learned more about branding and sustainable accessories. That is one thing that really adds value for my future.
If you could manage a whole fashion or trims collection, how would you choose to make it sustainable? What principles and methods in your opinion would make it virt uous and able to safeguard our planet?
I would make it sustainable through materials and easy to be recycled. Transparency in the production chain and sustainable choices would help to safeguard our planet.
The fourth one that tells about her experience is from South Korea, Seohee Ruby Shin student of FIT Fashion Institute of Technology – New York USA

What was it like immersing yourself into the world of Cadica accessories?
It was very interesting! This was my first-time designing packages and other accessories to my garment. It was exciting to see that Cadica accessories does not have any limitation on the design options, materials, and technique for the execution.
After the collaboration, my attention to the detail and packaging became sharper and I found new joy to find out the technology and design feature on it so that I could apply new details to create the new design.
Do you think that the capsule collection you created was a relevant experience for your CV? Have you received any interesting feedback from companies or from a professional point of view thanks to Cadica name?
This experience gave me a huge advantage and made me stood out from the other candidate when I had interviews during the Covid.
Not a lot of fashion designers who recently graduated their school have the experience of participating the whole design process and launching their product through the collaboration with this company.
I’m really grateful that I was selected to be part of the collaboration and achieved this unique opportunity, not only having the experience of learning on the new field but launching my collection and showing to the customers.
While I had some interviews during the Covid-19 after the graduation, I shared this great story and interviewers were very interested that I have ability to build the product start to finish even including the package from this unique experience.
Now I’m working at Terramar Sports supporting New Balance business. Based on my experience, I’m designing the New Balance product along with packing, label, hangtag and other special instruction with garments & accessories.
How can we better organize the next Pericolo Creativo contest? Any suggestion to better realize this collaboration with young students and fashion designers?
The lectures and the samples that you provided us to was very informative and gave me so much inspiration, and insight of the product. I believe the people who had never had the chance to experience this field would really appreciate these educations and lead them to create the whole new creative products. The more you know, the more creativity you have.
I wish Covid-19 didn’t happened so that we could visit the HQ in person, touch the product and have live experience in person would be really great.
